Position is located in Pierre clinic setting.

Must have at least 1 year of direct experience with medical records or direct patient care nursing. Position analyzes, codes, abstracts, reports and maintains medical records information involving a wide range medical information. Organizes and checks medical records for completeness, accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements. Must have elementary practical knowledge of the structure and physiology of major anatomical systems to analyze the consistency of records that include references to several disease and various medical diagnostic, therapeutic and surgical procedures. Must assemble patient's medical record and ensure the record is complete. Prepares correspondence and summaries of medical records in response to requests from law firms, patients, insurance companies, government agencies etc. Must maintain confidentiality of medical records in accordance with Privacy Act. Must have excellent customer service and communication skills with clients both in person and via the phone, i.e. good written and verbal communication skills. Must have good time management skills and the ability to problem solve both independently and while working within a team approach. Knowledge of electronic document scanning is beneficial. Must have ability to make many decisions regarding release of information, questions of legality, compiling, recording and reviewing medical record data. Must be extremely organized and maintain up-to-date accurate records. Also responsible for filing medical record information directly into patient's chart. Must be able to work with medical and nursing staff to solve problems regarding inconsistencies and discrepancies in the medical record. Must have high proficiency and experience with EHR systems and must be extremely proficient with using computer systems. Must be capable of independent work, organized and ability to manage multi-tasks.

Knowledgeable of Native American culture and traditions preferred. Preference will be given to qualified Indian applicants; however, all interested individuals are encouraged to apply. Must be able to provide Indian Preference documents if claimed.
