Job Description

The Controller will play a pivotal role in overseeing the financial operations of Northwest Corp. Reporting directly to the President of the company, the Controller will be responsible for managing all aspects of financial reporting, payroll, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis. The successful candidate will provide strategic financial guidance to senior management, ensuring the company's financial health and compliance with regulatory requirements. 

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Payroll Management: 

  • Oversee the payroll process, ensuring accurate and timely payment of wages to employees
  • Manage payroll taxes, deductions, and withholdings in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Maintain payroll records and prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders

Certified Payroll Compliance: 

  • Ensure compliance with prevailing wage laws and certified payroll requirements for government contracts
  • Prepare and submit certified payroll reports as required by regulatory agencies
  • Coordinate with project managers to accurately track labor hours and rates for certified payroll purposes

Financial Reporting: 

  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements
  • Analyze financial data and present findings to senior management to support decision-making processes
  • Ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and regulatory requirements

Budgeting and Forecasting: 

  • Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with department heads
  • Develop financial forecasts and variance analysis to track performance against budgeted targets
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and revenue enhancement to improve overall financial performance

Cash Management: 

  • Oversee cash flow planning and ensure availability of funds for operational needs
  • Monitor banking activities and reconcile bank accounts to maintain accurate cash balances
  • Optimize cash management processes to minimize financial risk and maximize returns on investments

Financial Analysis: 

  • Conduct comprehensive financial analysis to support strategic initiatives and business decisions
  • Evaluate project profitability and provide insights to project managers for cost control and optimization
  • Identify key performance indicators (KPIs) and develop reporting mechanisms to measure financial performance against targets

Internal Controls and Compliance: 

  • Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accuracy of financial data
  • Coordinate internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and support
  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations and reporting requirements

Team Leadership and Development: 

  • Collaborate with project managers, field workers, and the sales team to ensure all expenses, invoices, and billing is handled efficiently and accurately  

 

JOB SHIFT AND SCHEDULE: 

  • This is a full-time position in Sioux Falls, SD 
  • Typical hours of 7:00 am - 4:00 pm

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Experience in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA designation preferred
  • Proven experience in a senior financial management role, preferably within the construction industry
  • In-depth knowledge of payroll processing, certified payroll requirements, and tax compliance
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and trends
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Proficiency in accounting software, specifically QuickBooks Desktop, and Microsoft Excel. 
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and integrity
