Outpatient Addictions Counselor

Department:                 Heisler

Reports To:                  Director of Outpatient Addiction Services

Position Supervises:  None

Work Schedule:           Full-time position requiring flexibility in scheduling; 2 evening shifts per week

POSITION SUMMARY

Clinical and direct service tasks essential in the treatment of addition in an outpatient setting, including performing substance use evaluations, aftercare and intensive outpatient treatment groups.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS STATEMENT(S)

PRIMARY DUTIES:

Program

  • Attend and participate in all scheduled staff meetings and training requirements for professional certification and to meet program-licensing standards.
  • Complete substance use evaluations/treatment needs assessments.
  • Facilitate aftercare group.
  • Facilitate IOP (outpatient treatment) group.
  • Ensure documentation and reporting of client services and records to ensure compliance with accreditation standards.

Client Services

  • Provide direct services to include, but not be limited to client casework, intake, assessment,crisisintervention,therapeuticsupportorcounseling,referral,community education and/oroutreach.
  • Ensure discharge planning is completed for allparticipants.
  • Facilitate individual and group therapy sessions, documentingallclient participation.

Other

  • Responsible for other duties as assigned.

POSITIONS QUALIFICATIONS

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education:                           Bachelors or Associates Degree Required.

Skills:                                    Excellent oral and written communication skills and personal computer experience required. Demonstrated experience and skills in case management counseling and effective therapeutic techniques.

Certifications & Licenses:  Certified or Licensed Addiction Counselor in the state of South Dakota preferred or ability to get ACT (Addiction Counselor Trainee) status.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, manually manipulate, reach outward and above shoulders, speak, climb, crawl, squat, kneel, and bend on a daily basis.
  • Capability to lift, carry, push or pull up to 100lbs on a daily basis.
