DESCRIPTION

Summary


Directly supervise and coordinate activities of miners.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:



  • Direct drilling, blasting, stripping, loading, crushing, screening and storing of materials.

  • Analyze worker and production problems and recommend solutions, such as improving production methods or implementing motivational plans.

  • Arrange for repairs of equipment and machinery.

  • Assign work to employees, based on material and worker requirements of specific jobs and customers.

  • Confer with managerial and technical personnel, other departments, and sub-contractors in order to resolve problems and to coordinate activities.

  • Coordinate work activities with other activities.

  • Estimate material and worker requirements to complete jobs.

  • Examine and inspect work progress, equipment, and mine sites to verify safety and to ensure that specifications are met.

  • Accomplish production goals and keep accurate records with regards to equipment, maintenance, cycle times, production targets, requisition of materials and adherence of budgeted cost targets.

  • Order or requisition materials and supplies.

  • Provide assistance and advice to workers engaged in mining activities.

  • Read material specifications and determine how to meet them.

  • Record information such as personnel, production, and operational data on specified forms and reports.

  • Suggest or initiate personnel actions such as promotions, transfers, and hires.

  • Supervise, coordinate, and schedule the activities of miners.

  • Train workers in work methods, operation of equipment, safety procedures, and company policies.

  • Function as a safety leader in the Quarry by demonstrating a personal commitment to working safely and ensuring the plant continues to eliminate work related risks.

  • Analyze organizational operating practices or procedures, establish employee performance standards, estimate materials or labor requirements, inspect operations to determine specification compliance.

  • Conduct and attend staff meetings, training for personnel.

  • Coordinate through subordinate supervisory personnel, direct and coordinate mining operations.

  • Work with Quarry personnel to optimize and reduce costs through continuous improvement activities.

  • Maintain properties in good condition and acceptable appearance.


Computer Skills



  • Outlook, Scheduling software

  • Data entry software

  • Microsoft Excel

  • Microsoft Word


Education and/or Experience



  • 5+ years of mining experience

  • High School diploma or General Education Degree is required.

  • 2 or 4 year degree in Mining or Geological Engineering preferred.

  • Knowledge of MSHA and OSHA regulations.


Physical Demands



  • Must be able to walk up and down ladders and steps.

  • Must be able to hear back up alarms/other noises suggesting danger.

  • Must be able to crawl in and around vehicles, equipment, etc.

  • Must be able to lift and move 70 pounds unassisted.

  • Must have good eye/hand coordination. 


Certain job tasks may require you to wear a half mask respirator in which you will need to meet the osha guidelines based on 1910.134(g)(1)(i).
