Avera is currently seeking Registered Nurses (RN) – Expanded Role looking to deliver the best possible nursing care in Avera’s patient-focused settings.

Job Summary

  • The Registered Nurse is accountable for providing  quality nursing care to our patients and residents within their scope of practice.
     
  • Supervise the staff working with them to coordinate cares with ancillary staff and to communicate effectively with the providers to ensure quality patient/resident care. 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of general nursing theory and practice, including the basic knowledge related to nursing, such as psychological, physical, social, and medical sciences, and their application, for better understanding of patient/resident care problems. 
  • Thorough knowledge of principles and methods involved in in-service instruction of nursing and auxiliary personnel, in demonstrating techniques and methods of nursing procedures, and in instruction of patients/residents.
  • Familiarity with organization and function of all departments; with all policies, regulations, and procedures. 
  • Knowledge of literature and new developments in the nursing field. 
  • Knowledge of application of principles or personnel administration in assigning, supervising, and evaluating activities of staff.

Education and/or Experience

  • Associate’s Degree is required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience is required.

Licensure/Certification/Registration

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of South Dakota and/or meeting the requirements of a multi-state licensure is required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required within 2 months from date of hire.
  • Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) is required within 6 months from date of hire.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is required within 12 month from date of hire.
  • Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) is preferred.

Required Departments

(Must be willing to cross train to the departments listed below) Primary work location is based on desire and past work experience.

  • Nursing Home/Long-Term Care (LTC)
  • Medical Surgical/Emergency Department

Work Schedule

  • Varied shifts; 72 hours every 2 weeks
    • Every 3rd weekend
    • Every 3rd holiday
    • Occasional call time

Pay

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience. 

  • $31.00 - $46.50 per hour
