Job Purpose
The Senior Tool Designer is responsible for optimum design of a wide range of tooling, from simple cutting tools to very complex jigs, fixtures, and small machines. The individual will use good judgment from experience, customer requirements, technology, and economy to design the appropriate tooling for a job. The individual must provide support to Tool Design, Engineering and Production Groups, as required.
Essential Duties
Plans and designs assigned tool orders with emphasis on new or preproduction items requiring complex solutions which result in cost savings to production without sacrificing machine function or quality
Recommends new technology, materials, standardization methods, and tools by maintaining effective sources of information in order to minimize total tool costs.
Provides assistance to Tool Designers and Engineers in the development, design and fabrication of tools and special machines to reduce set-up times and lot sizes.
Meets all delivery, quality and costs objectives associated with tool design responsibilities through optimum utilization of available machines, labor, information, and technology.
Recommends, develops and implements systems, programs, and goals for changing service requirements and tooling needs in order to improve the Tool Design function.
Effectively communicates with Manufacturing Engineers and Product Designers to solve design for Manufacturing issues during the preproduction process.
Performs other duties as assigned.
