Position Summary
The Library Aide supports the daily operations and instruction of the school library by assisting students and staff, maintaining library materials, and supporting a welcoming and organized learning environment. This position reports to the Principal and receives guidance from Library Media Specialists, including the Lead Library Media Specialist.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Daily Operations
- Provide instruction in information literacy, research skills, digital citizenship, and responsible technology use.
- Assist students and staff with locating library materials and using library resources.
- Check materials in and out using the library management system.
- Recommend library media resources aligned with curriculum and student needs.
- Shelve, organize, and inventory library materials according to established procedures.
- Process new materials, including labeling, covering, and catalog support as directed.
- Maintain an orderly, safe, and welcoming library environment.
- Supervise students in the library to ensure appropriate behavior and use of resources.
- Assist with circulation reports, overdue notices, and basic recordkeeping.
- Support classroom teachers with library-related activities and scheduling as assigned.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records and information in compliance with FERPA and District policy.

Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Experience working in a library or school setting preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Basic knowledge of library organization and procedures or willingness to learn.
- Ability to use computers, library software, and basic office equipment.
- Strong organizational and attention-to-detail skills.
- Ability to work effectively with students and staff.
- Ability to maintain a calm, quiet, and supportive environment.
