The Custer County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for a part-time 24/7 Program Technician. This position plays a vital role in ensuring participants adhere to sobriety requirements as outlined in court orders, bond conditions, or sentencing agreements.

Hours and Schedule:
This position supports the 24/7 Sobriety Program, which operates 7 days a week, with testing conducted daily between 6:00–8:00 AM and 6:00–8:00 PM. Days and hours will vary, so applicants must have a flexible schedule and be willing to work weekends and holidays.
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
24/7 Technicians interact directly with program participants and are responsible for performing breathalyzer and urinalysis testing, handling and recording cash transactions, interpreting court documents, and reporting results to public safety entities. The role requires attention to detail, accuracy, professionalism, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Conduct and record results of breathalyzer and urinalysis tests
Verify sample integrity and monitor for signs of tampering
Notify participants of violations, including informing them of arrest status
Respond to inquiries from law enforcement, courts, jails, and other agencies
Accurately handle participant payments and reconcile the cash drawer
Record and report participant status, program compliance, and violations
Interpret and act on court documents and enrollment paperwork
Attend occasional staff meetings and trainings
Maintain confidentiality and follow all Sheriff’s Office policies
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or GED required
Experience in the criminal justice system or handling legal documentation preferred
Cash handling experience is strongly preferred
Must possess a valid South Dakota Driver’s License
Must pass a background check and pre-employment drug screen per the Sheriff’s Office Global Policy
