***Build Your Accounting Career @ ECG***
About Expansion Capital Group (ECG)
ECG provides financing solutions that help small businesses access the capital they need to grow. Our team specializes in efficient, non-traditional lending, balancing speed with strong credit discipline and a commitment to doing things the right way.
We are looking for an Accountant I to join our Finance team. This role is an excellent opportunity for an early-career accounting professional or someone who has built strong accounting skills through hands-on experience and is ready to broaden their responsibilities.
You’ll play an important role in ECG’s day-to-day accounting operations by recording financial transactions, completing account reconciliations, supporting financial close and reporting, and helping maintain the accuracy and integrity of our financial information.
If you enjoy working with numbers, investigating discrepancies, and understanding the accounting behind financial transactions, this is a great opportunity to continue developing your career.
In this role, you’ll gain broad accounting exposure across general ledger accounting, journal entries, reconciliations, financial reporting, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, audit support, and accounting controls.
What You’ll Do:
• Prepare and record journal entries and other financial transactions
• Maintain accurate general ledger records and complete month-end account reconciliations
• Post and reconcile electronic funds transfer activity, cash accounts, and receivable ledger accounts
• Investigate and resolve discrepancies in financial data
• Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close activities
• Assist with financial reports and statements, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, cash flow reporting, and variance analysis
• Complete financial reporting and research for internal and external users
• Perform Accounts Receivable activities, including generating invoices, processing payments, and monitoring aging of receivables
• Perform Accounts Payable activities, including data entry, verification, coding, and preparation of transfers and payments
• Support annual external audit preparation and related accounting deliverables
• Help maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
• Identify accounting discrepancies or control concerns requiring additional review or resolution
What You’ll Learn:
• General ledger accounting and journal-entry preparation
• Account and general ledger reconciliations
• Month-end, quarterly, and annual financial close processes
• Financial statement preparation and reporting
• Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable operations
• Audit preparation and accounting controls
• How accounting information supports financial reporting and business decision-making
Why Join Us:
• Broad Accounting Experience: Build experience across multiple accounting functions rather than being limited to one area
• Hands-On Development: Gain exposure to general ledger accounting, reconciliations, financial close, reporting, AP, AR, and audit support
• Career Growth: Clear progression from Accountant I to Accountant II to Senior Accountant
• Build on Your Foundation: Continue developing whether you built your accounting knowledge through education, hands-on experience, or both
• Meaningful Work: Help ensure ECG’s financial information is accurate, reliable, and available for effective decision-making
• Growing Organization: Develop your accounting career within a growing financial services company
What We’re Looking For:
Strong candidates typically have experience in:
• General accounting or staff accounting
• Journal entries and general ledger accounting
• Account reconciliations
• Month-end close
• Financial reporting
• Accounts Receivable or Accounts Payable with broader accounting responsibilities
• Identifying and resolving financial discrepancies
• Accounting systems and Microsoft Excel
You’ll Thrive in This Role If You Are:
• Detail-oriented and accurate
• Organized and dependable
• Naturally curious about why the numbers are what they are
• Comfortable investigating when something doesn’t reconcile
• Accountable with strong follow-through
• Comfortable working toward recurring deadlines
• Interested in understanding the accounting behind financial transactions
• Adaptable when priorities change
• Able to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team
• Interested in continuing to develop your accounting knowledge and responsibilities
Work Environment:
• Sioux Falls, SD or Sandy, UT
• In-office for the first six months
• May be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement thereafter based on business needs, performance, and leadership approval
• Professional office environment using standard office equipment and business systems
• Occasional evening or weekend work may be required based on business needs
