Our staff are the foundation of our Department. As a member of the Department's Division of Finance, you will assist programs to provide cost effective and accountable services and be part of a team with a family-friendly employer.

The Accountant is responsible for, but not limited to: managing high level fiscal responsibilities for the Department of Health, including preparing, reviewing, and executing contracts and RFPs to ensure all required clauses and schedules of work are accurate. The position prepares, processes, and tracks accounts receivable and independently manages and approves federal draws for more than 50 grants. It completes complex account reconciliations and provides technical assistance to programs on financial requirements and compliance. The Accountant oversees department wide time study and cost allocation processes to ensure accuracy in expense distribution. This role serves as the team lead for subrecipient monitoring and ensures all agreements meet federal guidelines & compliance. The position also functions as the system manager for Cobblestone and plays a key role in supporting and maintaining BISON financial system operations.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
A 4-year degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or business management and 3-5 years of progressive experience equivalent to Accountant/Auditor II with 4-7 years cumulative experience in the career band.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Knowledge of:
  • the principles and practices of fiscal management and budgetary control;
  • generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), standards, and practices;
  • statistics and financial reporting;
  • contracts and agreements;
  • financial management;
  • cash management policies and procedures;
  • Microsoft applications including Excel, Word, and Query;
  • accounting software - state accounting system beneficial.

Skills to:
  • meet reporting requirements;
  • perform analysis and identify specific details;
  • make timely and accurate decisions.

Ability to:
  • organize and oversee multiple requests and tasks on a daily basis;
  • provide technical assistance to department staff;
  • communicate information clearly and concisely;
  • establish and maintain effective working relationship with others;
  • research and interpret laws, rules, and regulations;
  • follow established procedures.
