Job Summary:
The Accounting Intern supports the Finance & Accounting Team with recurring reporting, basic analysis, and administrative accounting tasks that help the business run smoothly, especially during month-end reporting. This is a hands-on learning role designed for a student who wants practical experience in a real operating environment.
This role is ideal for an individual that is eager to learn about the accounting and finance world, has an interest in the mining and construction industry, and thrives in a collaborative work environment. This role will work closely with the Finance Manager to ensure that company reports are distributed on a timely basis, with accurate, thorough, and meaningful financial information.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Analytical Reporting
• With guidance from the Finance Manager, distribute aging reports and coordinate with division leaders to ensure collections are managed timely.
• Using established templates, prepare and analyze financial performance reports for use by key decision makers.
• Maintain and reconcile supporting schedules.
• Assist in improving organizational reporting at all levels of the business.
• Create ad hoc reports and perform analysis as assigned.
Process & Data Improvement
• Help improve the organization of reports and shared files so information is easier to find and use.
• Identify small improvements (template clean-up, better file naming, automation ideas) and propose them to the team.
Required Skills/Abilities:
• Good attention to detail with an analytical mindset.
• Deliver well-organized, accurate and easy to use reports for others to consume.
• Awareness of, and meets, deadlines.
• Identify and recommend ways to improve report production and clarity.
• Embrace change.
• Communicate clearly and collaborate effectively across all levels to resolve issues and align teams.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and accounting/ERP systems, specifically, Microsoft Excel.
Education and Experience:
• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s in Accounting/Finance in their 2nd to 4th year.
• 0–2 years relevant experience preferred (campus orgs, part-time work, internship, projects).
Work Environment & Requirements:
• Based in-office at the Sioux Falls location.
• Work is performed in a well-lit, climate-controlled office setting.
• Requires extended periods of computer use and sitting.
• No significant physical demands beyond standard office activities.
