Summary:

This position develops and provides and variety of social, recreational, and other purposeful activities. Activities may include individual and small group activities designed to promote social interactions, leisure activity opportunities, physical fitness, and personal well-being to help meet their goals. This position is responsible for carrying out activity interventions as identified in individualized treatment plans.

This is a part-time position. This position will work primarily Friday thru Sunday 10 a.m.-6:30 p.m. with a holiday rotation at the Rec Center.

Licenses and Certifications:

CNA certification or ability to pass CNA certification required. Lifeguard certified or ability to pass the lifeguard certification requirements preferred.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Knowledge of:
  • mental illness and chemical dependency;
  • dementia care;
  • assessment and documentation methods;
  • recreational activities methods, techniques, purpose and goals in relation to patient, center and institutional goals;
  • patient safety procedures;
  • patient rights;
  • leisure skills.

Ability to:
  • initiate, plan, organize assist and/or instruct individual, small group, and large group structured activities for patients;
  • exercise tact, patience and discretion in communicating and dealing with persons of varying backgrounds and temperaments;
  • establish and maintain professional relationships with patients, staff and volunteers;
  • manage time effectively;
  • communicate and document information and decisions logically, accurately and concisely;
  • maintain records, develop clear correspondences, and create reports as needed;
  • assist in other areas of the hospital when needed;
  • be a positive role model;
  • be creative;
  • be physically active which may include swimming, running, jumping, bending, and lifting;
  • effectively communicate to TR Coordinator and Supervisor of any problems, questions, or concerns.

This position is eligible for Veterans' Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
