The Minnehaha County Human Services department invites applications for an Administrative Assistant to join our team! As the first point of contact, this position is the face of the department to clients and the public who are in need of services such as financial assistance in a time of emergency.

Effective 9/27/2025, the hiring range is $23.02/hour to $25.38/hour.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Respond to public/client inquiries and requests, providing appropriate referrals, addressing questions, and assisting with the application process for County assistance.
  • Be an active and engaged team member who is able to respond to complex situations with diplomacy and professionalism.
  • Possess exemplary communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Software along with the ability to expand digital skillset in operating other software programs specific to the Minnehaha County Human Services office.
  • Prepare, review, and process vouchers, billings, and purchase orders.
  • Monitor office supplies and reorder as needed; maintain office equipment and schedule repairs and service.
  • Screen incoming mail and correspondence and direct it to appropriate team members.

What You Need to Succeed in this Role

  • High school diploma or GED and one year of increasingly responsible clerical experience. Comparable combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment background process.
  • Perform a variety of moderately complex secretarial and clerical tasks while exercising independent judgment.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.
  • Commitment and contribution to the team's success with tasks, duties, and projects.
