The Department of Labor and Regulation (DLR) is looking for a dedicated and driven individual to join our Workforce Development Division as an Apprenticeship Coordinator on the Start Today SD Registered Apprenticeship team.

This position supports the Start Today SD Apprenticeship program, which develops and expands Registered Apprenticeship pathways to meet workforce needs. By connecting businesses with workforce solutions and guiding individuals into sustainable career paths, you will play a key role in strengthening South Dakota's economy.

As an Apprenticeship Coordinator, you will:

  • Conduct outreach with employers, industry associations, and education providers to identify workforce needs and develop Registered Apprenticeship (RA) and pre-apprenticeship programs.
  • Assist sponsors, intermediaries, and businesses in designing, registering, and implementing apprenticeship standards. Provide technical assistance to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Complete required SDWORKS and PowerWorkforce entries for apprentices and sponsors to meet state and federal grant reporting requirements. Monitor case files for accuracy.
  • Support partnerships between DLR, employers, education providers, and state agencies by maintaining communication and assisting with apprenticeship program activities.
  • Collaborate with program manager and specialists on partnership initiatives, program, division or agency goals. Also provide input, follow-up, and coordination to ensure successful program outcomes.
  • Deliver presentations, workshops, and guidance to employers, staff, and stakeholders to increase awareness and expand participation in Registered Apprenticeship.


This is a full time (40 hours per week) position with the Department of Labor & Regulation in the Workforce Development Division. Travel throughout the state will be required, but flexibility with scheduling is available. Some out of state travel may be necessary. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of education, training, and professional experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential duties of this position. Candidates with a Gold National Career Readiness Certificate are preferred.

Knowledge of:
  • Registered Apprenticeship regulations, processes, and benefits for employers and workers.
  • Workforce and economic development programs (e.g., WIOA, state workforce initiatives).
  • Community resources, support services, and industry/education partnerships.
  • Data management and information systems.
  • Training and facilitation methods for diverse learning styles.


Skill to:
  • Take initiative, solve problems, and deliver results in dynamic environments.
  • Research, analyze, and interpret workforce needs and develop responsive solutions.
  • Network and maintain effective professional relationships with businesses, partners, and agencies.

  • Utilize Microsoft Office 365 and collaboration platforms (Teams, SharePoint, etc.).
