About the Role

Black Tie Components is looking for an organized, detail-oriented Accounts Receivable/Accounts Payable Specialist to join our team in Hartford, South Dakota.

This position plays an important role in the daily flow of money in and out of Black Tie Components. The AR/AP Specialist is responsible for customer invoicing and collections, vendor bills and payments, maintaining accurate financial records, and supporting job costing and month-end accounting.

We’re looking for someone who takes ownership of their work, pays close attention to the details, communicates professionally, and knows how important accurate and timely accounting is to a growing company.

Responsibilities

The AR/AP Specialist will be responsible for:

  • Preparing, issuing, and recording customer invoices, including deposit, progress, and final billings
  • Monitoring accounts receivable aging and following up on past-due balances
  • Communicating professionally with customers regarding collections and outstanding balances
  • Applying customer payments and reconciling deposits
  • Researching and resolving short payments, deductions, and billing discrepancies
  • Processing vendor invoices for materials, freight, subcontractors, supplies, and other expenses
  • Verifying vendor invoices against purchase orders and receiving records
  • Coding accounts payable transactions to the correct job, cost code, and general ledger account
  • Preparing scheduled payment runs and helping ensure payments are made within vendor terms
  • Maintaining customer and vendor records, W-9s, certificates of insurance, sales-tax exemption certificates, and other required documentation
  • Supporting month-end close, including AR and AP reconciliations, accruals, and open-item schedules
  • Assisting with annual 1099 preparation, sales and use tax filings, audits, and lender documentation requests
  • Maintaining accurate, organized, and auditable financial records
  • Handling customer, vendor, and company financial information with confidentiality

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with:

  • 2+ years of accounts receivable, accounts payable, or full-cycle bookkeeping experience
  • Working knowledge of AR and AP processes, including three-way matching and basic accrual accounting
  • Experience with QuickBooks or comparable accounting software
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, including intermediate Excel skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong organizational and follow-through skills
  • The ability to make collection calls professionally and persistently
  • The ability to handle confidential financial information with discretion
  • A high school diploma or equivalent

Preferred Experience

Experience with the following is preferred but not required:

  • Associate degree or coursework in accounting or business
  • Construction, manufacturing, or building-materials accounting
  • Job costing and progress billing
  • South Dakota mechanics’ lien and lien-waiver processes
  • Sales and use tax across multiple states
  • ERP systems or MiTek Management

Work Environment

This position is primarily office-based and requires regular computer and telephone use. There may be occasional walking through the manufacturing plant or yard, where PPE is required.

The position may occasionally require lifting or moving up to 25 pounds and requires sustained concentration and accuracy during month-end close and other busy reporting periods.
