Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented, adaptable Architectural Draftsman to join our close-knit design-build team. In this role, you will turn initial design concepts and sketches into complete, precise permit and construction drawing packages.
Because we are a small design-build firm, you won't just sit behind a screen all day—you will collaborate daily with our designers, project managers, tradespeople, and estimators. You will visit job sites to take field measurements and see your drawings brought to life in real time.
Key Responsibilities
Drafting & Documentation: Produce complete permit sets and construction document packages (floor plans, site plans, elevations, building sections, wall details, schedules, and electrical layouts).
Design & Concept Translation: Work with the lead designer/architect to convert client vision and hand sketches into accurate 2D CAD drawings and 3D models.
Field Verification: Visit job sites to measure existing structures, document as-built conditions, and verify critical site dimensions prior to design.
Code & Zoning Compliance: Research local zoning ordinances, setback requirements, and residential/commercial building codes to ensure project compliance.
Construction & Trades Coordination: Collaborate directly with internal Estimators and Field Superintendents to ensure drawing details match building budgets and actual construction methods.
Permitting Assistance: Submit permit applications to local building departments, track approval status, and make necessary revisions to address plan-check comments.
Revisions & Shop Drawings: Process client redlines, structural engineer updates, and field modification requests promptly.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Education/Experience: Associate’s degree or certificate in Drafting, Architectural Technology, or equivalent experience (2–5+ years of residential/commercial drafting preferred).
Software Proficiency:
Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD.
3D modeling and rendering skills in Chief Architect, is a strong plus.
Construction Knowledge: Basic to intermediate understanding of wood framing, building envelope systems, waterproofing, and construction sequencing.
Attention to Detail: Precision in dimensions, annotations, and scale.
Adaptability: Comfort wearing "multiple hats" in a fast-paced, small-office environment.
Communication: Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to clients, permit officials, and site crews.
Preferred / Bonus Skills
Hands-on trade or field construction experience.
Experience with residential remodeling, additions, or custom home design.
Familiarity with material takeoffs or assisting with project estimates.
