  • Support the planning and design of future Parks and Recreation development projects.
  • Inventory and analysis of existing park facilities.
  • Gathering of stakeholder and park user input.
  • Notation of usage patterns, opportunities, and constraints.
  • Conceptual park & trail design
  • Attendance and participation in project design meetings.
  • Research into national/regional trends for the purpose of discovering and vetting future park elements and programming opportunities.
  • Creation of park master plans for existing Sioux Falls Park properties.
  • Attend and participate in project management and stake holder relationship functions.
  • This is a 2026 summer internship.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Recent graduate or currently enrolled in an accredited landscape architecture program.
  • Must have an interest in the design of parks, public spaces, trails, and multi-use recreational facilities.
  • Must understand landscape architecture design principles, including land use planning, recreational programming, site design, and master planning.
  • Must have strong research and analytical skills. Proficiency or exposure to Adobe design software, ArcGIS and AutoCAD is preferred.
  • Ability to work as a team member and collaborate effectively with others.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including creation of project reports and public speaking.
