Job Description

The College of Arts and Sciences at Dakota State University is accepting applications for a 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Communication Studies beginning August 2024. The applicant selected will be assigned to teach communication courses. Courses may be taught on-campus in Madison, SD, and online as needed.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Teach equivalent to 12 credit hours per semester (4:4 load for Fall: Spring semesters).
  • Teach undergraduate courses that are part of the core curriculum of the general education program at Dakota State University, including Foundations of Communication, Public Speaking, and Interpersonal Communication. 
  • Champion Communication Studies curriculum on campus, collaborating with colleagues to advance the program and expand course offerings. 
  • Provide service to the program, university, and community, advising students, serving on university committees, assisting with recruitment activities, and engaging in ongoing program/course assessment. 
  • Develop and maintain professional scholarship with possible opportunities to mentor students.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Communication Studies or a related field.
  • Ability to teach undergraduate students.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience integrating technology into teaching.
  • Knowledge of media arts and communication.
