Join Our Team as an Automation/Integrator Project Estimator!
Direct Companies is currently seeking an Automation/Integrator Project Estimator to join our Automation team. This role is responsible for accurately estimating the controls automation costs of projects by analyzing and compiling cost factors, interpreting technical documentation, and creating comprehensive quotation packages based on process documentation, written specifications, and design materials.
As an Automation/Integrator Project Estimator, you will play a critical role in supporting our customers and internal teams by delivering reliable, well-structured project estimates that drive informed decision-making and successful project execution.
Position Summary
The Automation/Integrator Project Estimator provides project-specific cost estimates to customers based on written and verbal requests. This role requires a strong understanding of industrial automation systems, controls architecture, and system integration cost drivers. You will collaborate closely with engineering, project management, purchasing, vendors, and subcontractors to ensure estimates are accurate, competitive, and aligned with project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Understand, compile, and present high-level and detailed cost estimates for multiple automation and integration projects
Analyze and interpret detailed drawings, specifications, and design documentation
Develop refined cost estimates as designs evolve, identifying key cost drivers and value engineering opportunities
Review design options and recommend optimal solutions based on cost engineering, quality, and material availability
Prepare complete quotation packages, including final estimate sheets and bid forms as required
Participate in pre-construction meetings and communicate all pertinent information to project managers and purchasing teams
Coordinate and communicate effectively with coworkers, vendors, and subcontractors while maintaining the highest standards of integrity, ethics, and professionalism
Organize, track, and maintain accurate project and estimate documentation
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma, GED, or equivalent
Minimum of 5 years of automation controls experience
General knowledge of repairing, testing, adjusting, or installing industrial controls, instrumentation, motors, PLCs, DCS systems, and related equipment
Technical knowledge of automation controls architecture using platforms such as Rockwell Allen-Bradley, Emerson DeltaV DCS, Modicon/Square D, Siemens, or similar PLC/DCS systems
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong organizational skills with the ability to track multiple projects and details simultaneously
Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work cooperatively with coworkers and supervisors
Preferred Qualifications
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field
Five or more years of relevant experience in industrial automation or system integration
Previous proposal development and estimating experience
Strong communication and presentation skills
Experience with water treatment and wastewater treatment projects, including public bidding processes
