Position Overview: The Auto Body Painter is responsible for refinishing vehicles that have been damaged in accidents or require cosmetic restoration. This role involves prepping surfaces, mixing and applying paint, and ensuring a flawless finish that meets manufacturer and dealership standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong eye for detail, excellent technical skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Surface Preparation:
- Sand, mask, and prime vehicle surfaces to prepare for painting.
- Remove rust and old paint using appropriate tools and techniques.
- Clean and degrease surfaces to ensure proper paint adhesion.
- Paint Application:
- Mix and match paint colors using computerized systems or manual techniques.
- Apply paint using spray guns in a controlled booth environment.
- Apply clear coats and finishes to protect and enhance paintwork.
- Quality Control:
- Inspect completed work for color accuracy, smoothness, and overall finish.
- Perform touch-ups and corrections as needed.
- Ensure all work meets OEM and dealership standards.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with body technicians, estimators, and service advisors to coordinate repair timelines.
- Communicate any issues or delays to management promptly.
- Assist in training apprentices or junior painters as needed.
Qualifications
Qualifications: - High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in auto body repair preferred.
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in automotive painting or collision repair.
- Proficiency with paint mixing systems, spray equipment, and refinishing techniques.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to produce high-quality finishes.
- Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations related to auto painting.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Physical Requirements: - Ability to stand, bend, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
- Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs regularly.
- Tolerance for exposure to paint fumes, dust, and noise.
