This position serves as the Business Manager/Lead Accountant at the Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home in Hot Springs, South Dakota. The incumbent will supervise staff and oversee the department to include billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, resident trust accounts, contracting and cashiers' office within the Veterans Home and works with Superintendent and Finance Director on budget development and adherence and works with all team members to benefit and serve residents. Limited travel may be required for conferences and budget hearings.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
A four year degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or Business Management.

Specific duties will include:
  • financial Management to include regular review of financial reports for adherence to set budget by monitoring monthly cash balances and expenditure authority;
  • assisting in annual budget preparation and loading of the approved annual budget within the budget system;
  • overseeing the resident trust accounts at MJFSVH for proper entry procedures;
  • recommending changes to fiscal operating procedures;
  • analyzing and monitoring monthly expenditure and revenue reports;
  • assisting in the preparation of year-end accrual documentation and entry;
  • overseeing annual institutional inventory;
  • providing daily assistance to fiscal issues, as needed;
  • preparing and reviewing service provider contracts;
  • providing technical assistance relating to federal grant, awards and expenditures.
  • Other duties as assigned.


The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Knowledge of:
• the principles and practices of administration with emphasis in organization, fiscal management and budgetary control;
• generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), standards, and practices;
• generally accepted auditing standards (GAAS);
• computerized accounting software;
• office management;
• purchasing policies and procedures.

Ability to :
• communicate information clearly and concisely;
• plan, organize and direct an administrative services program;
• supervise;
• deal tactfully with others;
• interpret rules and regulations;
• follow established procedures;
• meet reporting requirements;
• make timely and accurate decisions.

This position is eligible for Veterans' Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
