Job Description

Dakota Wesleyan University is seeking a full-time Business Operations Accountant. This individual will create and reconcile reports and financial data, prepare journal entries, manage the month-end and year-end financial reporting and audit, and assist in monitoring the university’s annual budget. They will be responsible for accounting processes related to gifts, grants, endowment funds, annuity and trust funds, and investments. This position will have supervisory responsibilities over business office operations and staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides direction for all elements of the Business Office Accounting functions
  • Responsible for audit work papers, monthly federal draw downs, and reports
  • Reviews payroll for standard and student employees, tax reports and deposits, and reconciling appropriate accounts
  • Verifies work of accounting and work-study staff; answer questions or gives accounting advice as necessary
  • Assists VPFA in financial analysis of all programmatic endeavors
  • Provides confirmation and quality assurance for all personal services data/information
  • Maintains the University’s accounting system for all funds
  • Prepares and/or reviews account transfers and budget revisions; reconciles accounts, correcting errors if necessary; works with departments on budgeting and accounting questions
  • Reconciles investment reports with endowment accounts
  • Maintains endowment annuity files, paperwork and reports
  • Maintains scholarship accounts by recording balances and determining estimated interest for each scholarship fund
  • Supervises the maintenance of Perkins/NDSL loan program
  • Attends campus meetings as representative for the Business Office when the VPFA is unavailable or as requested
  • Assists the Accounts Receivable Accountant, Accounts Payable, and Payroll personnel

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting
  • 2-5 years related experience required
  • Non-profit accounting experience a plus
  • Strong communication and organizational skills with attention to detail
