Job Description
Summary of Position
The Carpenter Supervisor is responsible for supervising all carpenters and carpenter-related projects. This
includes the planning, construction, installation and/or repair of existing and new structures and fixtures. The position is
further responsible for determining requirements and priorities of projects and work orders. This is a non-exempt position.

Reports to the Facilities Manager
Responsibilities
1. Determine priorities of projects and work orders. Regularly communicates with the Facilities Manager on the
status of projects and work orders.
2. Examines blueprints, sketches, and/or building plans to prepare project layout and determine dimensions and
materials required. Keeps record of changes on blueprints for future reference.
3. Lays out floor plans and carpentry work, using standard carpentry instruments.
4. Selects and purchases materials and structural units as needed, i.e. lumber, doors, cabinets, and paneling.
Inspects them for quality assurance.
5. Ensures conformance with local, state and federal codes, guidelines, and ordinances.
6. Determine sequence of activities concerned with fabrication, assembly, and erection of structure.
7. Gives progress reports regarding projects to the Facilities Manager. Submits budget preparation and requests for
the purchase of carpentry tools and related equipment.
8. Determines power and carpentry tools needed for projects, inspecting them for damage and safe operation.
9. Inspects work completed to insure conformance with specification.
10. Oversees, manages, and trains carpenters the daily routines and work assigned to them.
11. Complies with all safety and health requirements whether established by management or by federal, state, or
local law.
12. Performs other responsibilities as required by the Facilities Manager.
Qualifications
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Carpentry and supervisory experience required
• Valid SD Driver’s License
Physical Demands
• Frequently lifts, carries or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 30 lbs.
• Occasionally exerts up to 50 lbs. of force.
• Regularly bends, stoops, crouches, and climbs stairs.
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods.
• Must have the capability to apply oneself physically over long periods of time.
• Uses the abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly over time without becoming
fatigued.
• Position requires working outdoors in summer and winter.
Expectations of Hours Worked
- 40 hours/week and on-call as required
