Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)

Job Description

Egger Steel Company has been a leading provider of structural steel fabrication in the Upper Midwest for more than 80 years. We are seeking a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to support quality control within our steel fabrication operations. In this role, you will help ensure that welded products, including bridge girders and structural steel components, meet all applicable codes, customer specifications, and internal quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Inspect weldments to ensure compliance with AWS codes, project specifications, and company standards
• Perform inspections on bridge girders and structural steel assemblies throughout fabrication
• Verify weld quality, fit-up, and dimensional requirements prior to shipment
• Inspect surface preparation and paint coatings on bridge girders to ensure compliance with project specifications
• Interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and fabrication drawings
• Maintain welding procedures, welder qualifications, and inspection documentation
• Identify quality issues, support root cause analysis, and assist with corrective actions
• Work with production teams to improve weld quality and fabrication consistency

Qualifications

• Active AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification required
• 5+ years of welding, fabrication, or manufacturing quality experience
• Knowledge of AWS D1.1 structural welding code
• Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and weld symbols
• Experience with structural steel preferred
• Familiarity with coating or paint inspection on structural steel is a plus
