POSITION SUMMARY

The Chief Engineering will play a key role in contributing to Rosenbauer Americas development of new products. In this role, you will be responsible for driving the technical strategies of sub-systems utilizing system engineering processes. In support of all Rosenbauer America Products, you will be responsible to manage a team to develop integrated hardware solutions to meet your specific vehicle system and/or sub-system performance, cost, and schedule requirements. Responsibilities will also include leading and supporting product research and development projects and being a significant contributor to define and implement process improvements which provide increased business capabilities and efficiencies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Supervise, coach, and maintain adequate staff to accomplish Rosenbauer America Engineering goals. Manage and identify resource needs with justification.
  2. Plan, coordinate, supervise and monitor progress of large projects to successful conclusions, which includes performance, timing, and budget goals.
  3. Define global technology strategies and communicate technical product roadmaps.
  4. Develop and implement consistent processes to manage the products and data across the engineering team. Identify and implement continuous improvement ideas.
  5. Lead the team through system engineering product development process. Identify challenges in component and system developments and create opportunities to overcome.
  6. Direct the management and maintenance of your sub-systems BoMs and the management of the data within a PDM and a CAD system.
  7. Direct your team on appropriate analysis and/or tests to ensure performance, durability, and safety criteria are met.
  8. Understand and apply vehicle regulatory requirements and standards, such as FMVSS, SAE, NFPA, etc., to ensure our product designs are compliant.
  9. Act as an internal technology specialist in support of your core technology development team and drive development of best practices and processes associated with your core technology.
  10. Coordinates product and processes with other departments including Manufacturing, Purchasing, Service and Sales & Marketing.
  11. Prioritizes and manages multiple projects and objectives as well as handling unscheduled tasks.
  12. Lead the team in analysis and problem-solving techniques to develop products and address issues.
  13. Communicate and coordinate effectively with Rosenbauer America leadership team, other product development engineering teams and all cross functional teams.
  14. Performs other duties and responsibilities as required by management to meet the needs of the company.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA’s): The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

K

Knowledge, Education, and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required.
  • Master’s degree in Engineering preferred.
  • 10+ years related experience required.
  • Experience in heavy truck systems and/or automotive systems required.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes to design for efficient assembly and serviceability preferred.
  • Knowledge of firefighting processes and equipment preferred.

Language:

  • Able to find, read, and interpret relevant scientific and technical documentation and standards.
  • Able to actively participate in engineering discussions by listening, asking relevant questions, and suggesting solutions to problems.
  • Able to follow written and verbal directions and communicate new information that could affect project trajectories.

Math:

  • Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to tasks such as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory and factor analysis.

Computer:

  • Able to perform intermediate PC functions including the use of spreadsheet tables and formulas.
  • Able to work within Microsoft Office, SolidWorks, and CAD.

  • Able to deal with problems involving a variety of variables in non-standard situations.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to evaluate and validate designs to meet requirements.
  • Able to understand and apply an engineering development process.
  • Able to prioritize work and to multitask while adhering to deadlines.
