Civil Engineering/Surveying Internship

POSITION SUMMARY
The Engineering Department is interested in hiring a college student to work 40-50 hours per week as a Civil Engineering/Surveying Intern on a temporary, part-time basis for the Summer of 2026. The normal work hours are from 8:00am to 5:00pm CST, Monday to Friday, for 12-16 weeks. The pay will be $19.00 - $23.00 per hour, depending upon previous experience and training. The ideal candidate will be a motivated individual interested in pursuing a surveying, engineering or construction management career, who has had experience and/or training in surveying or drafting. This is a great opportunity for someone who has a broad interest in Municipal Government and/or Civil Engineering, surveying, or construction management and will be working in a team environment under the supervision of the City Engineer.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Maintain detailed records and reports.

- Handle multiple requests for assistance with other staff and follow directions.
- Ability to follow safe working practices by wearing appropriate protective clothing, footwear and headwear; using safety equipment properly and follow good housekeeping and standard safety procedures.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CIVIL ENGINEERING/SURVEYING INTERN:
- Assist in the conception, design, and construction management of street, sidewalk and sewer improvements.
- Utilize electronic equipment to gather survey data for projects, download to computer, and upload it into drafting software.
- Utilize measurement and testing equipment to verify that construction work meets specifications.
- Utilize AutoCAD and GIS software to produce illustrations of engineering issues and/or solutions.
- Prepare and/or deliver written communications regarding City projects;
- Document construction projects with photographs and daily logs;
- Assist Engineering Division as needed for completion of projects;
- Communicates orally and in writing information and results of field surveys and inspections;
- Position requires ability to work outdoors during all weather conditions as directed;
- Position requires the ability to assist on a field survey crew as directed;
