The South Dakota Bureau of Human Resources and Administration is seeking a Classification Analyst to join the Classification and Compensation Team!

This unique role offers the opportunity to work collaboratively across the State of South Dakota organization, driving and supporting Classification and Compensation activities throughout government bureaus and agencies.

This position provides classification analysis services to assigned agencies in accordance with Bureau of Human Resources and Administration rules and procedures.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • scheduling and conducting in-person or teleconference classification interviews with employees;
  • analyzing work duties to determine the proper job classification;
  • researching and analyzing position history and job classifications;
  • writing and preparing reports and letters;
  • creating, writing, and revising classification specifications;
  • reviewing and approving requisition requests to announce job openings.


Work is generally performed in an office environment, with interruptions and irregularities in the work schedule; however, this position requires some travel to complete work tasks.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
The ability to work and collaborate as part of a team, but also the initiative and worth ethic to complete tasks independently. Preferred candidates will have a Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or closely related work experience. Candidates with a Gold National Career Readiness Certificate or above are preferred. Experience in Classification/Compensation, Recruiting, and/or Human Resources is beneficial, but not required.

Knowledge of:

  • job analysis methodology;
  • classification and compensation methodology;
  • Bureau of Human Resource and Administration policies and rules.
