The
Conservation Foreman manages, and coordinates assigned habitat and habitat-related development projects including maintenance and repair activities by prioritizing projects, recruiting and training crew members, and developing work schedules. They also make sure equipment is adequate for the tasks at hand, maintain inventories of materials and supplies, and monitor work progress to ensure completion of management plans. The Conservation Foreman will balance the expectations of the public with sound practice of natural resource conservation.

Licenses and Certifications: Class A CDL driver's license, A South Dakota pesticide applicators license, and RXB3 Wildland Fire Fighting Certificate are required. Timeframe to obtain these if you do not already possess them will be discussed upon hire.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have: B.S. in Wildlife and Fisheries or equivalent degree and/or experience.
Knowledge of:
- general habitat management practices including the planting of food plots, trees, grasses, controlled grazing, haying, controlled burning and herbicide use;
- noxious weed control methods;
- diagnostic and repair methods for a wide variety of vehicles and equipment;
- general knowledge of the flora of the region; and
- the principles used in the management of wildlife populations and their associated habitat.
Skill to:
- implement, evaluate, and update five-year management plans annually;
- stay current with techniques, practices, advances, and innovations in the field;
- use Microsoft Office Suite; and
- use other software including ArcMap, Survey 123, and Arc GIS Collector.
Ability to:
- organize and prioritize projects on a long- and short-term basis and calculate time, equipment, and manpower needs;
- clearly provide work direction to others;
- handle chemicals and equipment safely;
- demonstrate a high level of safety awareness for self and others;
- diagnose vehicle and equipment malfunctions and determine the most cost effective resolution;
- communicate sufficiently to resolve conflicts with staff, the public, and landowners; and
- obtain prescribed burning certifications.
