Job Description
The Department of Political Science at the University of South Dakota invites applicants for a staff member to serve as the Coordinator for Graduate Programs. This is a twelve-month, benefits-eligible, full-time appointment.
The Coordinator of Graduate Programs serves on the leadership team in the Department of Political Science and plays a crucial role in ensuring the academic excellence and success of graduate degree programs.
Responsibilities include:
- Facilitate the evolution of graduate programs (NASPAA-Accredited Master of Public Administration (MPA) program and our online M.S. in Administration (MSA) Program) to adapt to student needs, evolving best practices, trends in graduate education, and changes in the disciplines.
- Lead the curricular revision(s) process in the Department. Compose, submit, revise, and track required documents throughout the process of Curriculum and Instruction (C&I) review.
- Oversee the graduate assistantship process for the department: select, hire, and supervise graduate assistants.
- Advise the department chair on student conduct, course scheduling and teaching assignments, operating expenditures, facilities, and other tasks for which the chair has decision authority.
- Maintain accurate program documents, records, and web content.
- Assist in Graduate admissions process: serve on the admissions committee; advise on admission decisions; advise students and maintain student programs of study.
- Identify and inform prospective students of graduate study opportunities in the Department of Political Science at USD, in order to recruit and grow program enrollment.
- Collaborate with faculty, students, and administrative staff to maintain program and curricular integrity, enhance recruitment efforts, and facilitate student retention, progression, and graduation.
Required Qualifications:
- Possess at least a Master’s-level degree in any field, by the date of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in higher education and/or curricular management.
