Job Description
St Thomas More Catholic Church in Brookings SD is seeking a full-time Religious Education Coordinator for their High School and Middle School faith formation program.
The Coordinator will implement a faith formation program that prepares youth for living out their faith at college, and also builds a community of faith, assists the youth in discovering and growing in their Catholic faith, and provides opportunities to grow in prayer and relationships with God.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Recruit, equip and form catechists/core team to lead and teach middle and high school religious education classes.
- Work closely with the Coordinator of Elementary Religious Education to provide a smooth transition to middle school faith formation.
- Be aware of and communicate vocational discernment opportunities within the diocese and encourage youth participation.
- Develop discipleship relationships with youth and parents and be available to mentor them as necessary.
- Work with pastorate clergy to coordinate and facilitate sacramental preparation.
- Coordinate opportunities to involve youth in parish ministries during sacramental preparation and beyond.
- Organize and facilitate sacramental retreats.
- Attend and participate in all staff and faith formation meetings.
- Submit regular updates of activities for the bulletin, website, and social media.
- Support the faith formation department with other sacramental events and activities as needed.
Essential Qualifications:
Willingness and ability to effectively make known the Catholic Church’s teachings through the varied ministry activities expected of this position.
Willingness and ability to act as a personal witness to the Catholic faith and religion by living both one’s professional and personal life in accordance with the doctrines and moral teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, as embodied in the various documents of the Roman Catholic Church, including, without limitation, the Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church.
Bachelor's degree in Theology, Pastoral Ministry, Catholic Studies or related field preferred.
Strong understanding of Catholic theology, teachings and sacramental preparation.
Available to work Wednesday evenings and weekends as needed.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to relate to youth, parents and volunteers.

Desire to work collaboratively within a fun, dynamic, close-knit team.
A passion for evangelization, catechesis and family life with the desire to help youth to know, love and serve God and follow Jesus Christ as a lifelong disciple.
Ability to plan and execute engaging and age-appropriate activities and events.
Creative problem-solving abilities and a willingness to adapt to changing circumstances.
