REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION LEVEL:

Master's Degree and endorsements for the level of assignment. South Dakota certification or licensure

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Minimum of five (5) years of teaching/administrative experience. Prior experience elementary administration experience, instructional coach experience, or team leader experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires constant hand-eye and mind-eye coordination, hearing, intermittent keyboarding, repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers, sitting, speaking, writing, carrying, filing, indexing, opening, scheduling, standing, and walking is also required.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Capability to relate effectively with staff, students, and community. Demonstrated ability to work with a wide variety of community groups and organizations. Effective oral and written communication skills. Skills in human relations, leadership, and conflict management. Knowledge of curriculum at the appropriate level, best practices in education, and effective school research. Demonstrated ability to use a computer for word processing, spreadsheets, and databases. High level of organizational skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES

  • Serves as a leader and general resource person in elementary curriculum development and evaluation.
  • Facilitates, implements, and assists with developing a standards-based curriculum in all content areas, K-5.
  • Coordinates and implements the staff development program, K-5.
  • Coordinates the elementary instructional program consistent with district goals and objectives.
  • Reviews, researches, prepares, and disseminates information about curriculum development trends, extended learning programs, and intervention programs.
  • Facilitates the development of the content of K-5 multiple assessments to align with the district's Board of Education approved curriculum and South Dakota academic content standards.
  • Analyzes, reports, and interprets student performance data and makes recommendations for instructional improvement.
  • Develops, submits, and monitors budgets for the operation of assigned programs and services.
  • Coordinates the process of textbook evaluation, selection, and adoption at the elementary level.
  • Coordinates the program of ongoing evaluation of curriculum and instruction at the elementary level.
  • Works with elementary principals in the continuing evaluation of programs to improve student achievement.
  • Interprets the elementary curriculum, philosophy, goals, and objectives to administration, staff, and the general public.
  • Effectively handles parent complaints regarding elementary curriculum.
  • Monitors District curriculum through classroom observations, District meetings, and review of student performance.
  • Facilitates communication between District departments, buildings, and levels.
  • Provides professional development opportunities for teachers and teaches professional development classes as appropriate.
  • Provides leadership on District committees.
  • Works closely with building principals.
  • Leads elementary new hire academy supporting new staff members.
  • Assists with assigning student teachers.
  • Coordinates textbooks, technology, and teaching materials ordering as recommended during curriculum studies.
  • Coordinates support and supervise elementary Instructional Coaches.
  • Leads curriculum, professional development, and instructional changes from curriculum studies with the Elementary Team Leaders.
  • Provides leadership in the completion of District Priorities; develops and presents reports to the School Board.
  • Reports curriculum changes and provides leadership in District Curriculum Council.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Pay Day: Last working day of each month.
