Position: Database and Applications Administrator

Classification: Exempt/Full-time

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Database and Applications Administrator is responsible for the maintenance and support of the University of Sioux Falls’ Jenzabar Student Information System and other institutional databases. This role requires close collaboration with IT personnel, faculty, and staff to ensure data integrity, system functionality, and user support. The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in relational database management, advanced SQL, and expertise Microsoft Office Suite. This position reports directly to the Vice President for Information Technology/Chief Information Officer or their designee.

MAJOR FUNCTIONS

· Develop and oversee on-going training programs for new and experienced users of administrative systems.

· Maintain regular interaction with administrative and academic areas to ensure best support of the work of the institution ensure data integrity, including writing reports and ad hoc queries, overseeing process flows, and serving as a resource for the University.

· Coordinate with stakeholders, develop methodology, and provide recommendations to proactively collect and enhance data for end-users within the University.

· Gather data from various databases, utilize statistical techniques and applications to analyze and interpret the data, and create ad-hoc reports and queries to report the data as requested by stakeholders.

· Manage user access to the database(s) applications, granting appropriate permissions based on individual roles and responsibilities.

· Develop needs analysis of potential projects, identify potential solutions and vendors, and facilitate decision-making in coordination with the VP/CIO working with end-users within the University.

· Serve as project liaison for application upgrades, migrations, and new system implementations.

· Maintain relationships with external vendors to ensure they are maintaining their systems, security, and backup(s) of institutional data, as needed, to provide continuous access for day-to-day operations and in accordance with federal and insurance requirements.

· Diagnose and resolve issues related to database and application performance, security, and data integrity.

· Ensure integrity of data among all institution databases and applications.

· Evaluate data between systems and across technology for process efficiencies (e.g. workflows, data imports, system integrations).

· Special projects as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

· A Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems or its equivalent experience preferred. A Bachelor’s

· 3+ years as a database administrator required.

· Demonstrated experience with Linux and/or UNIX operating systems and open-source tools; and, Microsoft SQL Server.

· Proficient with Microsoft.Net and other software systems used within the industry and verifiable knowledge of current technology and best practices in the field.

· Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

· Demonstrated experience expertly managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

· Experience in problem solving by identification and resolution of issues in a timely manner, while analyzing information, and designing creative and alternative solutions.

· Demonstrated experience in synthesizing complex or diverse information; collecting and researching data; designing workflows and procedures.

· Demonstrated effective written and oral communication with ability to create clear documentation using existing and new system processes for projects and procedures in a manner that can be understood by end users, customers, and vendors.

· Ability to positively and effectively communicate with and respond to colleagues, students, and outside vendors; effectively present information as requested.

· Occasional work during night or weekend may be necessary.

· Ability to regularly lift and /or move up to 20 pounds; successfully pass required background check; valid driver’s license and ability to regularly stand and sit at desk during workday in a typical office environment during the course of the job.
