McPherson County South Dakota Deputy Sheriff job opening.
The McPherson County Sheriff’s Office provides county wide law enforcement within McPherson County and has contracts with two municipalities, Eureka and Leola. In addition to law enforcement responsibilities, this deputy will serve as deputy coroner, deputy emergency manager, and will fill the contract responsibilities with the City of Leola and will assist with ordinance concerns. This deputy will join a team consisting of the Sheriff and two deputies.
We are looking for a self-motivated individual who has good people skills and is interested in becoming a part of our community. We encourage our employees to be active in the schools and the community both on and off duty. Certified applicants are preferred but is not a requirement however, the applicant must be able to become certified in the required time permitted by law. Successful uncertified applicants will be trained. Applicants must be 21 years of age or older, a United States Citizen, and a graduate of an accredited high school or have a high school equivalency certificate. The applicant must have a valid South Dakota driver license or be able to obtain one and must have a good driving record. The applicant must pass a criminal history background check and have no criminal history that would prevent the applicant from becoming a certified officer. The applicant must also pass a pre-employment physical and drug test. Residency in McPherson County is mandatory.
Wage will depend on experience. Full benefit package to include retirement, health and life insurance. Dental and eye insurance is available. Deputies are assigned take home vehicles.
