This is a Full-Time 40 Hour per week position with the Department of Human Services. For more information on the SD Developmental Center, please visit https://dhs.sd.gov/en/south-dakota-developmental-center .

The Developmental Disability Program Supervisor provides appropriate supervision, coordination and oversight of programs, supervises personnel, implements in-service training, facility maintenance and assists in developing the budget for their assigned program to ensure safe and adequate services. Also plays a key role with community engagement, "marketing" and ensuring the safety and satisfaction of facility-users. This position does require that the Program Supervisor be on-call on some weekends and holidays acting as the On-call administrator.

Key Duties:

Staff Management:

  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate staff members, including scheduling and performance management.
  • Serves as a member of the SDDC leadership team.


Program Development and Coordination:

  • Plan, organize, and implement recreational programs and events, ensuring they meet the needs of the clients.

Budget Management:

  • Assist with development and management of the facility's budget, including revenue and expense tracking, and seek funding opportunities through grants (through the SD Arts program, etc.).

Facility Maintenance and Operations:

  • Ensure the facility is clean, safe, and well-maintained, coordinating repairs and improvements as needed - reports concerns to Environmental Services

Community Engagement:

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with community members, organizations, and local authorities.

Marketing and Promotion:

  • Develop and implement strategies to increase facility usage and client participation.

Customer Service:

  • Address customer inquiries, resolve issues, and ensure a positive experience for all facility users.

Record Keeping and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of facility usage, program participation, and financial transactions, preparing reports as required.

Safety and Security:

  • Serves as a member of the campus Risk Management Team.
  • Ensure the safety and security of the facility and its occupants, implementing and enforcing safety policies and procedures.


Compliance:

  • Ensure the facility and its operations comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Compliance the CMS guidance and ensure that Active Treatment is the overarching outcome for activities.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

A degree or background in psychology, sociology, counseling, or another related field. A combination of education and experience will be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • the needs of developmentally disabled individuals;
  • basic health care;
  • methods and techniques used in the training of developmentally disabled population;
  • the capacities and limitations of each functioning level of developmentally disabled;
  • techniques of planning;
  • effective methods of supervision;
  • behavior management.


Ability to:

  • supervise;
  • coordinate and evaluate plans;
  • recognize and properly react to atypical behavior;
  • help individuals achieve self-help skills, behaviors, and manners commensurate with their capabilities;
  • relate with developmentally disabled population and serve as a role model in demonstrating appropriate behaviors;
  • follow instructions, keep records, and prepare narrative and numerical reports;
  • instruct staff in the theory, practices, and procedures of treatment of developmentally disabled people.
