Job Description

Job Summary

The Diesel Shop Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered vehicles and equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced shop environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on diesel trucks, trailers, and equipment, including engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension, steering, and electrical systems
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools and technical manuals
  • Conduct DOT inspections and ensure all equipment meets federal, state, and company safety standards
  • Complete preventative maintenance services according to company schedules and manufacturer guidelines
  • Accurately document repairs, parts used, and labor performed
  • Communicate repair needs and safety concerns to shop leadership
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Assist with roadside repairs and emergency breakdowns as
  • Follow all safety procedures, policies, and best practices
  • Other duties as assigned by leadership

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a diesel technician or mechanic preferred
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, drivetrain systems, and electrical diagnostics
  • Ability to read and interpret repair manuals, schematics, and service bulletins
  • Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred or willingness to obtain
  • ASE certifications preferred but not required
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks

Work Environment & Schedule
