Job Summary
The Diesel Shop Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered vehicles and equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced shop environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on diesel trucks, trailers, and equipment, including engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension, steering, and electrical systems
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools and technical manuals
- Conduct DOT inspections and ensure all equipment meets federal, state, and company safety standards
- Complete preventative maintenance services according to company schedules and manufacturer guidelines
- Accurately document repairs, parts used, and labor performed
- Communicate repair needs and safety concerns to shop leadership
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Assist with roadside repairs and emergency breakdowns as
- Follow all safety procedures, policies, and best practices
- Other duties as assigned by leadership
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a diesel technician or mechanic preferred
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, drivetrain systems, and electrical diagnostics
- Ability to read and interpret repair manuals, schematics, and service bulletins
- Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred or willingness to obtain
- ASE certifications preferred but not required
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks
