Job Description
The Diesel Repair Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered vehicles and equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation. This role supports operational uptime by performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting mechanical issues, and completing repairs in a timely and accurate manner. The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and committed to safety and continuous improvement.
Essential Duties
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical systems, and hydraulic components
- Perform routine preventative maintenance including oil changes, filter replacements, and system checks
- Use diagnostic tools and software to identify mechanical and electrical issues
- Complete work orders accurately, including documenting repairs, parts used, and time spent
- Conduct safety inspections to ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work area in a clean and organized condition
- Communicate repair status and recommendations clearly with supervisors and team members
- Follow all OSHA safety guidelines and company safety policies
- Assist with emergency repairs to minimize equipment downtime
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong understanding of diesel engine systems and mechanical components
- Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose complex mechanical issues
- Familiarity with diagnostic tools, hand tools, and shop equipment
- Basic knowledge of electrical and hydraulic systems
- Ability to read and interpret service manuals and technical diagrams
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Diesel technician certification preferred (e.g., ASE Diesel Certification)
- 1–3+ years of experience in diesel repair or heavy equipment maintenance
- Valid driver’s license required (CDL preferred but not required)
- Ability to pass pre-employment background check and drug screening (if applicable)
