Bender Companies, a leading real estate and property management company, is looking for a dynamic, talented Director of Finance to join our team. This is a key leadership role for someone who enjoys building strong teams, digging into the details, and also stepping back to see the bigger financial picture. The Director of Finance will oversee accounting operations across a diverse commercial and multi-family portfolio and work closely with ownership, leadership, investors, and lenders. This role blends hands on accounting oversight with leadership, planning, and trusted financial guidance.
What You Will Do
Lead and Support the Accounting Team
- Oversee, mentor, and develop accounting team members
- Manage workloads, review work product, and support growth and consistency across the team
- Establish and maintain strong accounting procedures and internal controls
- Serve as the go to resource for complex accounting questions and problem solving
Accounting and Financial Oversight
- Oversee corporate and property level accounting activities
- Review monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements and KPI’s
- Provide guidance on general ledger structure, journal entries, bank reconciliations, and financial accuracy
- Partner with external CPAs on audits, reviewed financials, and year end processes
- Assist with benefits, compliance reporting, and compensation planning support
Budgets and Financial Planning
- Lead the annual budgeting process for properties and corporate entities
- Review and validate assumptions and inputs
- Prepare and review short and long term projections
- Support acquisitions, refinances, and dispositions through financial review and analysis
- Prepare DSCR calculations and lender required reporting
Property Finance
- Oversee CAM reconciliation processes prepared by commercial property managers
- Review and guide utility bill back calculations and adjustments
- Ensure consistency and alignment with lease requirements
- Review property budgets, operating expenses, and recoveries
Investor and Lender Relationships
- Prepare financial reporting packages including PFS and SREO schedules
- Respond to investor and ownership questions related to financial performance and budgets
- Maintain strong banking and lender relationships
Asset Management Support
- Assist with lease financial reviews and recoveries
- Support insurance renewals and financial documentation
- Assist with annual filings and financial requirements for multiple entities
What We Are Looking For
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 5 or more years of progressive accounting experience
- Experience leading or supervising accounting team members
- Strong background in real estate or property accounting preferred not required
- Detail oriented with strong judgment and follow through
Preferred
- CPA or CPA track
- Experience working with multiple entities and complex ownership structures
- Exposure to Payroll or HR related financial support
