Job Description

Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools, a vibrant pre-school through 12th grade school system located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, is actively seeking a Director of Information Technology (IT). Candidate applications are reviewed as received and the position is considered open until filled. The Director of IT will start in August of 2026.

Our next leader will help advance the mission, vision, and values of Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools. This position is one of seven directors joining the VP for Educational Services and President to collaboratively serve in our Central Office to support the school system. This role supervises two experienced employees.

Director of IT Summary:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Mission

  • Promote the mission, vision and core values of Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools
  • Support the educational ministry by ensuring resources strengthen faith formation and academic excellence

Strategic & Operational Leadership

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive technology strategy aligned with the mission and strategic priorities of Bishop O'Gorman Catholic Schools.
  • Advise the President and school leadership on emerging technologies, cybersecurity risks, and technology investments.
  • Lead long-range technology planning, lifecycle replacement schedules, and infrastructure modernization initiatives.
  • Develop and manage annual technology operating and capital budgets.
  • Supervise technology personnel, establish departmental priorities, and foster a culture of service, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead technology planning and implementation for facility expansion, renovation, and school growth initiatives.

Infrastructure & Cybersecurity

  • Direct the design, implementation, maintenance, and security of all network infrastructure, including wired and wireless networks, internet connectivity, servers, storage systems, and cloud-based environments.
  • Oversee disaster recovery planning, business continuity procedures, and data backup systems (Barracuda).
  • Establish and maintain cybersecurity standards, risk management protocols, vulnerability assessments, and incident response procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with student and employee data privacy regulations and best practices.
  • Perform network penetration/security tests (Nessus) & staff (KnowBe4) tests
  • Administer and oversee key enterprise systems, including student information systems (Infinite Campus), productivity suites, and related educational technologies (Destiny).
  • Monitor system performance, reliability, and scalability to support multiple campuses and future growth.

Asset & Vendor Management

  • Maintain comprehensive inventories of technology assets, software licenses, and related equipment including EANS Inventory.
  • Develop lifecycle replacement plans and recommend technology purchases based on organizational needs and budget priorities.
  • Negotiate and manage vendor relationships, contracts, warranties, service agreements, and telecommunications services.
  • Oversee technology-related components of campus security systems, access control systems, surveillance systems, communications platforms (Apptegy), and audiovisual systems.
  • Administer E-Rate and other technology funding opportunities when applicable.
  • Ensure compliance with software licensing requirements and technology purchasing standards.

Academic Integration

  • Collaborate closely with principals, academic leaders, and instructional staff to ensure technology enhances student learning and supports educational goals.
  • Evaluate instructional technology tools and digital learning platforms for effectiveness, compatibility, and mission alignment.
  • Assist principals in evaluating new educational technologies and digital resources to ensure alignment with curriculum goals and instructional effectiveness.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of responsible technology use policies for students and staff.
  • Support initiatives related to digital citizenship, online safety, and ethical technology use.
  • Partner with principals to assess emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and digital learning resources, for appropriate educational application.

Support & Training

  • Provide leadership for technology support services team that ensure timely and effective assistance for faculty, staff, students, and families.
  • Establish service standards and technology support procedures.
  • Develop and deliver professional learning opportunities that enhance technology integration and user effectiveness.
  • Create and maintain technology policies, documentation, and operational procedures.
  • Promote a customer-service mindset throughout the technology department while maintaining high standards of responsiveness and professionalism.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Faith Qualifications Required:
    • Willingness and ability to effectively make known the Catholic Church’s teachings through the varied ministry activities expected of this position
    • Willingness and ability to act as an outstanding personal witness to the Catholic faith and religion by living both one’s professional and personal life in accordance with the doctrines and moral teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, as embodied in the various documents of the Roman Catholic Church, including, without limitation, the Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church
    • Commitment to the mission, vision, and core values of Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools and Catholic education: Core Values are Faith, Unity, Excellence, and Integrity
    • Prefer a practicing Catholic, in good standing with his/her parish, demonstrating active involvement in Sacramental and parish life.

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field
  • Three or more years of progressively responsible technology leadership experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in network administration, cloud technologies, cybersecurity, systems management, and enterprise technology planning
  • Strong project management, budgeting, communication, and leadership skills
  • Ability to, diagnose and resolve problems, communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences, operate a variety of software applications,
  • Commitment to building relationships, confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical stewardship of information

Preferred

  • Master's degree in a technology-related field, educational leadership, or business administration
  • Technology certifications such as Microsoft, Cisco, VMware, Google, CompTIA, CISSP, or related credentials
  • Experience in Catholic or faith-based educational environments
  • Experience managing multi-campus technology operations
  • Must have a good understanding and working knowledge of networking and its related equipment
  • Possesses a fundamental working knowledge of the operating systems and software used by Bishop O ’ Gorman Catholic Schools

Essential Physical Demands:

  • Ability to work daytime hours, primarily Monday-Friday, with evening and weekend involvement as needed
  • Clarity of vision
  • Ability to speak English clearly
  • Ability to hear and distinguish sounds, including speech, alarms and other work environment sounds
  • Fine hand motor skills to include and not limited to keyboarding, writing, grasping, holding, and repetitive motion
  • Ability to frequently sit, walk and stand through work day
  • Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to push/pull up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to intermittently crawl, bend, squat, and reach overhead
  • Ability to ascend and descend a ladder
  • Ability to occasionally perform work at elevated heights while using a lift
  • Ability to occasionally working in warmer indoor environments
