Job Description
We’re seeking an experienced, motivated Director of Operative Services to lead the operations of our Operating Room (OR). This key leadership role, reports to the Chief Nursing Officer, and is responsible for managing daily workflows, supervising a dynamic team of surgical professionals, and ensuring excellence in patient care delivery.

As the Director of Operative Services, you’ll lead with a hands-on, strategic approach to ensure excellence in surgical care delivery, operational efficiency, and team performance. You’ll leverage your clinical expertise, leadership acumen, and organizational savvy to make a meaningful impact each day.
Operational Leadership
You will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Operating Room, ensuring patients receive safe, high-quality care. Success in this area requires:
- Strong critical-thinking and decision-making skills to assess workflow, prioritize competing demands, and respond confidently in high-pressure situations.
- Expertise in infection control practices, regulatory compliance, and electronic medical records to support a safe, compliant, and technologically efficient environment.
- Collaboration skills to work across departments, troubleshoot challenges, and maintain strong communication with physicians and leadership.
- Proactive planning to ensure appropriate staffing, resource allocation, and readiness for accreditation or state health inspections.
Team Supervision & Development
You’ll lead a multidisciplinary team of OR professionals, guiding them toward clinical and professional excellence. To be successful, you’ll need:
- Effective leadership and mentoring skills to coach and develop staff, build a culture of accountability, and promote growth through succession planning.
- Emotional intelligence and communication strengths to foster a respectful, positive environment while navigating complex interpersonal dynamics.
- Organizational and time management abilities to lead performance evaluations, manage timesheets, and ensure operational consistency through team meetings and huddles.
Fiscal & Strategic Planning
You'll manage the financial health of the department while ensuring quality care remains a top priority. This means:
- A sharp eye for budgeting and resource utilization, balancing the need for cost containment with clinical excellence.
- Strategic thinking to identify areas for improvement, streamline operations, and align OR goals with broader organizational objectives.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Graduate of an accredited RN program required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Active RN license (or ability to obtain) in South Dakota.
- Minimum 5 years of Operating Room experience preferred.
- Proven leadership and team management experience in a clinical or surgical setting.
- Membership in a professional nursing organization is preferred.
- BLS and ACLS certifications (or obtained upon hire).
- Strong leadership and decision-making capabilities.
- Ability to thrive in fast-paced, high-acuity environments.
- Expertise in infection control practices and electronic medical records.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and critical-thinking skills.
