Job Summary:
This position provides comprehensive public health services in the area of disease intervention as well as providing education and technical assistance to clients, communities and health care providers on public health, disease transmission, disease prevention and healthy lifestyles. This position will work with cases of vaccine preventable diseases, HIV, sexually transmissible diseases, tuberculosis, bioterrorism events, emerging diseases and other infectious diseases. This position will aid in the testing and treatment of clients, as well as provide many other case management services. This is a full time position and will require occasional travel both in state and out of state.

Licenses and Certifications:
  • To be considered for the Nursing Career Band, a current South Dakota RN license is required.
  • CPR, can be completed upon hire.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
The Department of Health is seeking a registered nurse with clinical experience and knowledge of public health is preferred or a non-nurse with a bachelors degree in health science, or a related field, and/or applicable experience.

  • lead client encounters and conduct interviews;
  • conduct surveillance activities;
  • collaborate with health systems and facilitate improvement in quality of care;
  • provide clinical follow up;
  • conduct field services and testing;
  • conduct case analysis;
  • respond to outbreaks and assist with emergency preparedness activities.
