Role Overview:
Downtown Ambassadors are the frontline place managers of Downtown Sioux Falls. This is a hands-on, outdoor position responsible for maintaining a clean, welcoming, and vibrant district while serving as a visible point of hospitality, safety, and care. Ambassadors work year-round in all weather conditions and play a critical role in shaping how residents, visitors, and businesses experience Downtown.
Ambassadors take pride in their work, care deeply about the district, and approach each day with a service-first mindset. From cleaning sidewalks and installing banners to assisting visitors and conducting welfare checks, this role requires physical stamina, situational awareness, empathy, and a strong sense of ownership. Ambassadors are not just maintaining Downtown—they are helping it thrive.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain cleanliness and appearance of the district, including litter removal, trash servicing, graffiti abatement, power washing, and general care of public spaces.
- Provide hospitality and ambassador services, assisting visitors with directions, information, and escorts while serving as a friendly, approachable presence Downtown.
- Perform seasonal and special projects, including snow and leaf removal, banner installation and maintenance, flower basket care, and holiday or beautification initiatives.
- Support quality-of-life efforts, including welfare checks, compassionate outreach, and triaging concerns to appropriate community resources.
- Monitor and report safety or maintenance concerns, including suspicious activity, damaged infrastructure, or environmental hazards.
- Conduct business check-ins, building positive relationships with downtown stakeholders and communicating needs or concerns to the BID team.
- Operate vehicles and equipment safely, supporting daily routes, asset care, and efficient service delivery across the district.
Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license and ability to safely operate DTSF vehicles and equipment.
- Ability to work outdoors year-round in all weather conditions.
- Physically able to stand and walk for extended periods and occasionally lift 51–100 pounds.
- Friendly, outgoing, and comfortable engaging with the public in a professional, service-oriented manner.
- Strong situational awareness, good judgment, and ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Dependable, team-oriented, and able to follow established routes, systems, and safety protocols.
- Deep appreciation for Downtown Sioux Falls and pride in caring for public spaces.
