The South Dakota Department of Education is looking for a driven, detail-oriented professional to join our fast-paced Office of Educator Certification. We are looking for a proactive tech-savvy self-starter who can follow detailed procedures, investigate independently, and work with minimal oversight in this high-volume, deadline-driven environment. Someone who is passionate about supporting educators and ensuring that students are prepared for college, careers, and life. Your strong communication skills and ability to help others will shine brightly in this role!
What You'll Do : As an
Educator Certification Officer , you'll play a vital role in supporting the success of education programs by:
- Reviewing educator certification applications.
- Accepting and analyzing university transcripts and documents for meeting certification requirements.
- Providing customer service and technical assistance through phone calls and emails to educators, school districts, and university certification officers regarding certification requirements.
- Developing guidance to support the requirements for SD educator certification.
We'll equip you with the training and support needed to navigate the Administrative Rules and Codified Law in SD related to the SD certification requirements successfully.

Licenses and Certifications: SD educator certification is preferred.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Completed an educator preparation program, with experience in a K-12 school system.
Knowledge of:
- South Dakota K 12 educator certification statutes, rules, and policies;
- South Dakota Educator Preparation Programs; and
- Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, OneNote, PowerPoint, Teams, and Lists.
Skills and abilities to:
- demonstrate strong tech savvy skills and adapt quickly to new systems, tools, and digital workflows;
- provide courteous, efficient service and respond effectively to customer needs in a high volume, fast-paced environment;
- utilize available resources and technology to investigate, problem solve, and complete tasks independently;
- communicate clearly and professionally, both in writing and verbally, with diverse audiences;
- collaborate effectively with team members to implement policies and support educators;
- offer accurate technical assistance to ensure timely processing of certification applications and clear interpretation of statutes, rules, and policies;
- manage multiple tasks while maintaining exceptional organization and attention to detail;
- ensure strict adherence to laws, rules, policies, and confidentiality requirements.
- apply strategic and creative thinking to resolve challenges and improve processes;
- build and maintain positive, professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
