REQUIREMENTSEDUCATION LEVEL:Registered and Certified in the state of South Dakota and holding a level III South Dakota Certificate, level III NAD certificate, RID certificate, NIC, an individual certified by the department using the EIPA assessment score of 3.5 or higher, or a South Dakota provisional certificate.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:The position requires frequent time periods of sitting, standing, walking, and speaking.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES- Interpret oral communication into sign language and signed communication into spoken English in general education classes (this may include American Sign Language, Manually Coded English, Pidgin Signed English and/or Oral Interpreting).
- Facilitate communication among students who are deaf or hard of hearing, the classroom teacher and other personnel in the school district.
- Provide direct tutorial assistance in areas of academic support.
- Convey the content of the message clearly and accurately according to the receptive language level of the student.
- Adhere to the rules of confidentiality required of all school staff. Maintain professional standards as defined in the Code of Ethics of the national Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.
- Participate in educational team activities either in person or via a report. Activities may include team meeting, Individualized Education Program (IEP) conference, Multidisciplinary Team meetings and/or informal staff meetings. Input from the interpreter is valuable information in regards to communication strategies and progress related to the child's use of the interpreter.
- Assist in communication throughout the school day as stated in the IEP.
- Preview materials, conference with teachers, record data in logs, research signs, etc.

PAY INFORMATIONStarting at $27.96 per hour, please note this is based on the 2024-2025 salary schedule. 2025-2026 salary schedule coming soon!

Pay Day: Last working day of each month.
HOURS & FTEMonday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm with a 30 minute unpaid lunch
1.0 FTE, 40 hours per week, 9 months
