REQUIREMENTSEDUCATION LEVEL:Master's degree in counseling from an approved school counselor preparation program. South Dakota School Counselor Certificate.
EXPERIENCE DESIRED:Previous experience in elementary school setting
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Constant hearing, hand-eye and mind-eye coordination; frequent repetitive motions with wrists, hands and fingers, scheduling, sitting, speaking, walking, talking and writing are required.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to create positive relationships. Strong organizational skills. Ability to plan, organize, and work collaboratively with other teams.
CERTIFICATIONThis position requires a
valid South Dakota certification with the
School Counselor endorsement.

YOUTH SUICIDE AWARENESS AND PREVENTION TRAININGSouth Dakota Codified Law 13-42-71 requires certified educators to complete at least one hour of approved youth suicide awareness and prevention training every five years. Compliance is verified through district accreditation reviews. You will be required to provide your most recent certificate of completion prior to starting employment with the Sioux Falls School District.

Please carefully review the options before selecting a training as unapproved trainings will require you to retake an approved course.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES- Provides counseling to individuals and small groups with personal concerns.
- Consults with teachers, staff, parents, and other significant stakeholders regarding the developmental needs of students.
- Participates in building problem-solving team meetings and supports a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTMDSS) model for delivering academic and social emotional information.
- Coordinates and implements elementary counseling curriculum in the classroom.
- Monitors and effectively communicates with parents about student progress.
- Maintains the confidentiality of students and their families.
- Refers students with significant challenges to appropriate community resources in consultation with their parents.
- Plans, evaluates, and revises the building counseling program.
- Coordinates and conducts activities which contribute to the implementation of the elementary counseling plan.
- Builds interpersonal relationships and establishes positive rapport with students, colleagues, administrators, and parents.
- Pursues professional growth.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

PAY INFORMATIONStarting at $53,877 to $59,485 per year, based on experience.
