Position Highlights
Safety Coordinator
Required:
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) - Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) Certification in clinical or safety specialty within first five years of employment.
- Associate's in Safety, Security, Industrial Hygiene or equivalent experience
- Responsible for assisting the Director of Security and Emergency Preparedness in the planning, organizing, and directing of the Environment of Care (EC) programs for Avera.
Duties:
Assists the Department Director in managing the planning, coordination and evaluation of the Avera's Management Plans as mandated by the Joint Commission Standards: Safety, Hazardous Materials and Waste, and Fire Prevention.
Assists the Department Director to plan and coordinate the curriculum and presentation of safety training in both new employee orientation and annual review. Prepares agendas finalized minutes, trending sheets and oversees publication of information to staff.

A Brief OverviewAccountable for disaster preparedness for Avera. The position will develop and oversee solutions to provide timely and effective emergency preparedness. Major functions include developing emergency management plan drafts, organizing and maintaining emergency response assets, and providing related educational programs.
What you will do
- Performs preventative maintenance and testing on emergency response assets including decontamination equipment, command center systems, and emergency communications equipment.
- Responds as available to emergency situations including external and internal disasters, evacuation, hazardous material spills, patient decontamination events, and fires.
- Prepares and presents emergency management education programs.
- Assures compliance with federal regulations for NIMS and ICS in regards to facility emergency preparedness and response.
- Inventories and audits emergency response supplies and equipment as required by the Healthcare Resources Service Administration (HRSA) grant participation requirements.
- Implements emergency management corrective action plans as directed.
- Prepares written policy and program drafts for consideration by Leadership and approval of the Emergency Preparedness and Environment of Care Committees.
- Prepares and conducts emergency exercises, coordination with local, regional and state organizations as appropriate.
- Implements compliance initiatives for The Joint Commission Emergency Management Standards.
- Investigates emergency management grant opportunities.

Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:
- Drivers License - Licensing Board
- 1-3 years experience in Incident Command Systems for emergency response

- Associate's in Emergency/Disaster Management or related field
- Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) - International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM)
- ICS-300 Intermediate ICS for Expanding Incidents Course Completion - Federal Emergency Management Institute (FEMA)
- ICS-400 Advanced ICS for Command and General Staff Course Completion - Federal Emergency Management Institute (FEMA)
- IS-700 NIMS Course Completion - Federal Emergency Management Institute (FEMA)
- IS-800 National Response Framework (NRF) Course Completion - Federal Emergency Management Institute (FEMA)
- ICS-200 Basic Incident Command System for Initial Response Course Completion - Federal Emergency Management Institute (FEMA)
- ICS-100 Introduction to the Incident Command System Course Completion - Federal Emergency Management Institute (FEMA)
- 1-3 years experience in Clinical Patient emergency response
