Energetic Materials Technician

Here's a GREAT OPPORTUNITY:  Weekend Shift:  Friday through Sunday from 6:00AM-6:30PM.  Add $2.00 to the base!  Work 36 hours but get paid for 40!  This makes the base pay 26.67 for this position, and you have the rest of the week to yourself!

Job Summary: The Energetic Materials Technician will operate equipment used to manufacture Lead Azide and assist in production of other energetic materials as well as visually screen small portions of Lead Azide for various features and characteristics using a digital microscope.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Runs mechanical equipment used to process explosive materials by following procedures.
  2. Blends and processes pyrotechnic, primary, and secondary explosive materials by reading, interpreting and following established procedures. 
  3. Has the ability to read, understand, and follow written procedures. 
  4. Maintains a clean work area per Quality and Safety standards.   
  5. Takes inventory and records updates for items processed.  
  6. Assists others in the Energetic Materials area as directed.
  7. Drives company vehicles as needed.   
  8. Responsible for some hazardous waste management functions.  Performs physical waste activities (e.g., moving containers, collecting samples, deactivating materials, etc.)  
  9. Must wear PPE (personal protective equipment) as required and comply with all company safety standards and rules.  
  10. Assists other employees in the department as directed by supervisor.   
  11. Performs other work related duties as assigned. 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the United States (ITAR restrictions).
  2. Must be at least 18 years of age to work at this facility. 
  3. Must be eligible to possess explosives under the Safe Explosives Act of 2003 (as amended) as required by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for all employees of Tech Ord.
  4. High School diploma or Equivalent (GED) is required.  Three to six months related experience and/or training is preferred. 
  5. Knowledge of production processes is preferred.   
  6. Ability to read and understand procedures and follow specific written and verbal instructions. 
  7. Must be detail oriented and have basic mathematical aptitude.
  8. Ability to learn proper machine function and work safely with minimal oversight.
  9. Ability to communicate and document effectively in English.
  10. Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel and ability to learn and become proficient in our internal systems and applications.  
  11. Function Specific RCRA training upon hire.
  12. Must obtain and maintain a driver’s license to operate company vehicles as needed.
  13. Ability to work with other employees as part of a team and maintain a level of flexibility and versatility as well as the ability to work independently to accomplish tasks using time management skills with minimal supervision.
  14. Ability to set and establish priorities and multi-task in support of end-result/goal.

While performing the duties of this job:

  1. Ability to talk and hear in order to communicate with others.
  2. Seated work up to 20% of the workday.
  3. Frequently required to stand and/or walk both indoors and outdoors.
  4. Must be able to use hands to finger, handle, or feel as well as reach with hands and arms.
  5. Lifting of 10 pounds is required.  Must be able to move materials by lifting, pushing or pulling up to 50 pounds, and greater than 50 pounds with assistance.
  6. Bending, squatting and kneeling are required to move materials and perform other tasks such as filing.   
  7. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus when viewing a computer monitor.
  8. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and explosives.
  9. To mitigate the risk of burn, when working with powders, employees must wear a fire suit. 
  10. Ear protection is required as identified throughout the facility. 

Where required employees must wear a minimum of 50 percent cotton clothing including undergarments to mitigate electrostatic discharge (ESD).  Employees must also wear company issued safety footwear.
