Job Description

Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, South Dakota, invites applications for a tenure-track full-time faculty position in English at the anticipated rank of either Assistant or Associate Professor. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching excellence, particularly in first- and second-year writing courses, and contribute to the ongoing development of innovative pedagogical approaches to address information literacy, critical thinking, content strategy, and professional writing in English and Spanish. Spanish language proficiency is not required for the position but preferred.

As a faculty member in the English department, the candidate will also regularly teach the American literature survey course and a general education multiethnic literature course. Other department duties include supporting English education students, academic advising, and serving as a member of the College of Arts and Humanities. The start date is August 15, 2025. Rank and salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. Priority will be given to applications submitted on or before June 30, 2025.

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold a doctoral degree (PhD) in English (ABD will be considered).

  • Have taught successfully, preferably at the college level, or have comparable professional or academic experience that promises to translate effectively into the teaching environment.

  • Be enthusiastic about approaching teaching and learning in innovative ways that generate interest in the discipline and strengthen student engagement.

  • Be comfortable with, or willing to learn, the use of digital technologies to enhance student engagement and learning.

  • Be committed to high-quality teaching and active, project-based/applied learning.

  • Create assignments and learning experiences directly relevant to the professional work environment.

  • Be committed to mentoring students, including serving as an academic advisor.
