Incumbent will participate in a team setting working on projects involving the implementation and maintenance of the State of South Dakota's Microsoft Windows servers in the areas of virtual desktop implementations for remote working, such as Citrix and other solutions , collaboration toolsets, endpoint protection, security settings and others; will assist clients with problem source identification and resolution; will plan, install and maintain Windows system software and applications to ensure performance, integrity and security; and will provide problem diagnostic and resolution assistance for team members, external staff and groups, or third party providers.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Knowledge of:
  • support of Microsoft Windows servers in an enterprise environment;
  • direct support of clients, either in person or on the phone in problem resolution situations;
  • Microsoft Windows Server Operating System support as well as various applications to be installed (IIS, web applications, virtual desktop applications);
  • concepts of centralized services offerings in an enterprise computing environment;
  • supporting a mission-critical environment of Microsoft Windows Servers, Using.NET Platform, Internet Information Services (IIS), Citrix and Load Balancing;
  • common Windows and networking concepts and protocols: DNS, HTTP, FTP, SFTP, Active Directory, and SSL/TLS;
  • clustering or high availability technologies;
  • Microsoft Powershell scripting;
  • Microsoft Exchange or Sharepoint environments on prem and cloud based; and,
  • security best-practices for data center infrastructure components.

Ability to:
  • communicate with technical and non-technical clients and translate their needs, ideas, or suggestions into logical solutions to business problems;
  • track multiple areas of responsibility with strong organizational skills;
  • accomplish assigned technical tasks with minimal supervision;
  • install and upgrade server and application tools;
  • monitor systems and verify the integrity and availability of hardware, network, and server resources and systems;
  • modify existing servers and server software and directing programmers and analysts to make requisite changes;
  • design, under the mentorship of Engineers, small-scale infrastructure subsets and assisting in the creation of technical standards;
  • analyze and resolve information system errors;
  • troubleshoot and resolve system and application issues and errors;
  • maintain current documentation of installed systems;
  • work effectively as both a team member and alone; and,
  • work on projects with team members, as well as other BIT staff and/or vendors.
