Job Description

Job Summary:

The Equipment Operator is primarily responsible for safely and environmentally proficiently operating surface heavy equipment and performing plant maintenance.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Does not have any direct reports.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Follows all company safety and environmental policies and all federal regulations (OSHA, MSHA, FRA, EPA, DOT, and SDDANR, IADENR).
  • Safely and efficiently operate heavy equipment such as skid steer, loader, excavator, motor grader, dozer, and haul truck.
  • Perform and document a pre-shift inspection on equipment.

· Must be able to perform minor servicing and maintenance on mobile equipment as needed.

· Communicate with the shop/manager on equipment maintenance or repair needs.

· Responsible for the housekeeping of the equipment.

· Able to assist in plant repairs and clean-up.

· Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions.

· All other duties assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

· High attention to detail.

· Good work attendance.

· Display good communication skills, including the ability to understand and follow verbal and written directions and instructions.

· Learn a variety of work skills associated with maintenance and repair operations.

· Safely and efficiently use a variety of hand and power tools.

· Read, understand, and follow safety rules, regulations, and procedures.

· Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.

· Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.

Education and Experience:

· High School diploma or GED.

Physical Requirements:

· Physically fit to perform the job functions, including sitting, standing, squat, bending, lifting, and walking for long durations.

· Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
