Facilities Technician / Custodian

Employment Status: Full-Time, Hourly

Schedule: 36–40 hours/week. Flexibility required for church events and seasonal needs. This position may participate in a rotating on-call schedule.

Compensation: Depending on experience and skill level. A benefits package is available.

Position Overview

First Presbyterian Church is seeking a dependable, hands-on Facilities Technician / Custodian to support the care, maintenance, safety, and overall presentation of our building and grounds. This full-time role combines custodial care, building support, light maintenance, seasonal grounds work, Sunday hospitality presence, and facility oversight. The scope of responsibilities and compensation will align with the experience and skill level of the selected candidate.

 

Job Requirements
Primary Responsibilities

Clean and maintain sanctuary, offices, classrooms, restrooms, kitchens, and common areas.
Prepare, reset, and maintain spaces for worship services, meetings, and events.
Perform general building upkeep and minor repairs; assist with light electrical, plumbing, and mechanical tasks as skill allows.
Support preventative maintenance efforts and event setup/teardown.
Perform seasonal grounds care including mowing, trimming, and snow removal.
Serve as a welcoming and attentive presence during worship services and church activities.
Maintain situational awareness of who is in the facility and identify potential needs or safety concerns.
Communicate concerns promptly and respond calmly during busy or unexpected situations.
Participate in a rotating on-call schedule as assigned.
Perform other duties as assigned to support church operations.
Qualifications

Experience in custodial or facilities maintenance work preferred.
Ability to perform general building repairs; technical skills are a plus.
Experience operating lawn and snow equipment preferred.
Ability to read and understand written instructions and safety guidelines.
Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
Positive attitude and ability to work well during stressful or high-demand situations.
Strong work ethic, reliability, and integrity.
Physical Requirements

Ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds.
Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and perform physical labor for extended periods.
Ability to climb ladders as needed.
Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
